Buying Tips

We understand finding the perfect item can be difficult. Here’s some tips to keep in mind when looking for that something special:

Newborn or shower gifts – 6 months

Everything is new to these little ones! Toys which engage simple reflex activities such as grasping and sucking, and repetition such as opening and closing fingers are perfect for infants! Plush toys, rattles and teethers are wonderful for this age. For a personalized touch, Taggies blankets can be personalized for an extra-special newborn gift.

6 months – 1 year

Peek-a-boo! Babies are ready to expand their play at this age and are becoming little explorers! Many toys for this age have visual and tactile stimuli as well as encouraging small muscle coordination. Textured balls, activity centers, and soft blocks are classic, engaging toys for this age.

1 year old

Babies at this age delight in exploring, moving, watching, and learning about cause-and-effect. They are learning so much from their surroundings which challenge their thinking and encourage self-expression. Encourage their knack for discovery and develop new skills through products that promote learning through play such as puzzles, push toys, stacking and sorting toys.

2 – 3 years old

Toddlers are mobile, curious, active and exploring everything. Toys which safely encourage this curiosity will delight the child and the parent. Role playing and imaginative play teach toddlers about themselves, their environment and empathy for others. Dress-up, doctor kits, dolls, arts & crafts, blocks, and vehicles allow toddlers to learn about their world.

Preschoolers (4 – 5 years old)

Preschoolers love to create and with their broadening imagination, their are no limits to what they can come up with. Activities which involve social interaction will ready the preschooler for school-time sharing, taking turns, and increasing concentration. Early science kits, arts & crafts, bath toys, musical instruments, play-sets and puzzles are perfect for this age.

School-aged child (6 – 8 years old)

Entering school is a major developmental milestone where new friends and adventures await. Youngsters thrive on play groups and are developing their own learning style. After school activities and creative play will provide a positive and relaxing alternative from their school-day. Outdoor toys will keep them active while spy-gear, construction sets, craft kits and family board games will challenge and entertain.

Older children

These older children are changing in so many ways but still enjoy challenging playthings. Encourage their independence and explore new activities while keeping “screen-time” within acceptable, healthy limits. Science and electronic kits, craft kits and strategy games will bring the family together and you’ll be amazed at the topics kids bring up during fun, family activities.
